TEST - BAVARIA E34
67
The project manager Fabio Marcellino, who was responsible
for the development of this boat, proved it. Although you may
probably not be able to re-invent the wheel, you can re-invent
a proven type of boat. Deck salon with helm and galley, two full
sized double cabins each with their own toilet and shower room,
aft deck with L-shaped sofa, protected by the superstructure,
fold-out bathing platform, a sunbathing area on the foredeck
and even an engine room that is easily accessible and provides
enough space to not only to accommodate all the machinery,
but also to make maintenance easy. On the fly-bridge version
of the Bavaria E34 - we were on board the Bavaria E34 Sedan –
there is also a quite large, 8 square metres fly-bridge.
Back to the salon. Across from me is the kitchenette, with a
two-burner gas cooker including an oven, sink and a 110-litre
refrigerator. This is certainly not a professional kitchen, but
more than adequate for the leisurely breakfast or the simple
meal on the way. The table can accommodate two to four
people for a meal; in general, this boat is perfect for a couple
who would like to spend longer periods on board, occasionally
accompanied by visiting friends, or maybe the children. The saloon
table is now being built in such a way that it can be lowered
in the event that two additional beds are needed.
Further forward one goes down a few steps from the salon to
the owner’s cabin with a large double bed or alternatively, a variable
version in which two single bunks can be pushed together
to create a double bed. There is plenty of light and air and wardrobe
space, the headroom is 2.03 metres and like everywhere
in the ship, excellent (the guest cabin is only slightly lower with
1.96 metres, the salon is higher with 2.25 metres). Adjacent to
the cabin are to starboard the toilet room, to port the shower.
The steps to the salon can be folded up and from here you can
get into the engine room under the salon (as well as from the
rear deck).
The guest cabin aft is slightly smaller in size, but still very comfortable,
also thanks to the large through hull window. Wardrobe
space, space to stand in front of the bed, a separate toilet and
shower room (here they are combined) – are all excellent. Under
the steps to the salon there is still room for another refrigerator
or freezer, the engine room can be entered here through a
hatch.
Back one deck higher, and as already mentioned, one exits
through the glass sliding door onto the aft deck. This is very well
protected and partly covered. Under the upholstered benches
there is storage space, and there is a small cocktail table - ideal
for the sundowner, although one could also imagine a slightly
larger table here to be able to have breakfast outside. Very nice,
of course, is the large, fold-out bathing platform which also
facilitates entry and exit not only from the water, but also from
a low jetty.
The side decks are narrow but easy to walk along and thanks to
the bulwarks and the railing they are very safe, in addition there
are handrails to hold on to on the side of the superstructure.
On the foredeck, two cushions can be attached to a beautiful,
albeit exposed, sundeck, the yard even thought of installing
drink holders here as well. The electric windlass is operated
