joined forces with the water sports industry, which of
course had always interested him as a sailor. For five
years, he then facilitated financing with the finance
broker specializing in yacht financing “Go Boating”
(www.go-boating.de). He then spent five years with the
Riva importer in the Netherlands in the back office for
yacht finance.
Through his work there, Bavaria Yachts became
aware of him and invited him to take care of financing
especially for the Bavaria customers. Because, of
course, yacht financing is not always easy, the banks
are not familiar with this area and do not want to burn
their fingers on it - especially since a yacht is not
an immobile real estate, but rather a highly mobile
property. Martin says: “Clients can of course finance
their yachts using their house, but then they have no
flexibility. With a loan for example from CGI Finance
(www.cgi-finance.com) the customer can always cancel
the loan contract at any time, with only a 1 percent
prepayment penalty”.
In addition to financing for private yacht owners,
Go-Boating also includes the financing of charter
boats for private investors or companies as well as the
support of dealers, who always have several current
and new yachts in their marinas and showrooms.
But back to the private customer. Why should he
finance his boat at all? With the interest rates still so
low as at the s is simply clever. One has three advantages
through a financing: You can buy your desired
boat immediately and do not have to wait years to get
the money together. Or you can afford a bigger boat,
which is often important so the family really enjoys
boating. And you can also equip it better - I can now
take the bow thruster as well, if it only costs a few
euros a month more.
By using the finance calculator on the Bavaria website
you can get a quick overview. What can I really afford?
What rate comes out at what purchase price, at what
maturity and what equity? Currently, according to
Martin Bijl, the interest rates for yacht financing are
between 4.5 and 5.5 percent effective. However, there
are also “special offers”. Last year he was even able to
offer financing at the “Boot” in Dusseldorf at a sensational
zero percent!
Also, pre-owned yachts can be financed, provided that
they are not older than ten years and if the term does
not exceed ten years. In this way, it is also possible to
set up your own individual purchase-charter program
with the boat of your own choice and the charter
company of your own choice. The charter revenue
generated can then serve to reduce or even cover the
cost of financing. And if the yacht is sold before the
end of the financing, that is not a problem, because
an exit from the financing, unlike with real estate, is
always possible here.
Particularly exciting is the French leasing model,
where customers can save half of the French VAT. This
is advisory intensive and only possible with yachts that
are delivered to the customer in France. If you order
a Bavaria Yachts Nautitech catamaran, for example,
you could take delivery of it directly from the boatyard
in France. The VAT saved on this financing model can
ideally cover the costs of financing. And sometimes,
it is even cheaper to pay for the yacht in this way. This
is the dream of every future boat owner: Buy the boat
but keep your personal liquidity.
