TEST - BAVARIA S33
... IT RUNS AND RUNS AND RUNS
Bavaria has been building sailing yachts for more than 40 years.
Since about half as long they have also produced motorboats in Giebelstadt.
The S-Line is the heart of the motorboat division.
The successful S series starts at 29 feet and ends with a
45-foot model. Let's take a look at the S concept using
the example of the Bavaria S33. Two versions are avail-able
in this size: open, or hardtop. South of the Alps the
open version might be the preferred choice, while north
of them you might be better served with a hardtop. Nevertheless,
this configuration also allows a boating experience similar to that
of an open sports boat. All you need do is open the integrated
sunroof made of tarpaulin fabric for a true cabriolet feeling to
immediately set in. And if the sun isn’t out, the entire cockpit can
be completely covered with an optional camper top. This allows
you to extend your boating summer / season well into the autumn.
What the ‘S’ in the name stands for becomes patently obvious
the moment you open up the throttle. In a matter of seconds, the
compact family cruiser is transformed into a sporty speedster that
remains comfortable even at 35 knots. The handling always feels
safe and even tight curves taken at speed won’t stress the skipper.
And despite such attention to fun and sportiness, comfort is not
neglected. Designed as a family boat, the S33 offers space below
decks for a comfy life on board. First there is the bright saloon,
which looks even bigger without the usual bulkhead to the forward
cabin. Three deck hatches and four hull windows guarantee
perfect ventilation and a good allowance of daylight. The L-shaped
settee around the dining table is enhanced by elegant and modern
interior design. Light-coloured wood is not only fashionable, but
also lends a touch of lightness that is a familiar staple of modern
interior design. The headroom of 190 centimetres also contributes
to the overall generous feeling of space. The midship galley with
its stainless-steel sink presents itself in a chic, modern look and
has a practical worktop and plenty of room for utensils. An 80-litre
refrigerator comfortably accommodates shopping for the week-end,
or even an entire week. The quality of workmanship is seen
and felt at first glance. Skilfully executed woodwork is a trademark
of Bavaria Yachts. A lot of wood goes into the interior, all of it
varnished six times before being installed by expert hand.
