NUMBER 26 IS BEING
Boot Düsseldorf 2018: In the shadow of all the gleaming new
yachts, watchful visitors found a humble vintage sailboat.
It was almost as if this Bavaria 707 had come to the wrong
address, as somehow, she didn't seem to fit into the glamorous
world of the new yachting beauties.
This raised deck design, sitting on the huge stand of
Bavaria Yachts, already has a few years in her wake, and
has even written a piece of yachting history. The vessel
on show was build number 26, which had left the Bavaria
yard in 1978 with high expectations. Window frame
producer Winfried Herrmann had founded Bavaria Yacht building
that same year and also brought production boat-building to Germany.
At the very start the yard selected the right yacht-designer.
Shipbuilding engineer Kurt W. Schröter had, as the first German
designer, already experimented with the then new glass-fibre
