IELTS: the trusted test you can
rely on in changing times
IELTS Indicator – an online IELTS test
We have launched IELTS Indicator – an online test which can
be taken at home by test takers who can’t attend an IELTS
test centre due to current restrictions.
Although not a substitute for a full IELTS test, IELTS
Indicator assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking
using the same format and timing as the paper-based and
computer-delivered IELTS tests.
Unlike other online tests which often use an algorithm and
a set of simple quiz-type questions, IELTS Indicator focuses
on real-life conversation skills and includes a face-to-face
Speaking test with a trained IELTS examiner. This is carried
out via video chat. IELTS Indicator has been developed with
the same quality standards used for all IELTS tests, and is
marked by official IELTS examiners.
Support to help universities and test takers
We have also invested in additional resources to help test
takers book a test quickly, once testing resumes in their region.
International education will play a key role in rebuilding the
world after this crisis. We’re looking forward to working with
our globally ambitious test takers, and organisations, to help
play a role in this space.

ISSUE #26 | THE PIE REVIEW | 31
As we know, the events of this year have
changed the short-term course of our future
as a global community. The one thing that has
remained clear during this time however, is that international
education remains a key aspiration for many people. Some
studies have suggested more than 80% of students who had
planned to study abroad in 2020/21 are still hoping to do so.
This is certainly a very positive figure at an uncertain time.
Whether now or in the future, secure, reliable,
communicative language testing remains a key part of
international mobility. It helps students to make sure they
have the language skills needed for their courses, as well
as providing organisations with an indication of the level of
language support a student may need.
To help test takers achieve their goals, and to make sure
they are able to keep up their level of English proficiency
while at home, the IELTS Partners, have introduced a range
Inside IELTS – free MOOCs and support
