GET TO KNOW
GAE’S NEW VICE
Who is your hero?
My mother was my hero. She was the first person in
our family to graduate from high school. She was a
nurse and a single parent for most of my life.
What is your favorite thing about your career?
My favorite thing about teaching kindergarten is that
moment when a child learns something new and
he/she has that realization that he/she really did it.
What is your favorite book to read?
My favorite book to read to my students is I Love You
the “Purplest” by Barbara M. Joose.
What was the last movie you went to? What did
We watched the movie Freedom Writers in one of
my classes this summer. It was definitely inspiring,
but it also made me angry. We have so many people
like those in the movie who have given up on our
neediest students. It shouldn’t take a once in a lifetime
inspirational teacher for all of our students to have the
resources they need.
What is your favorite game or sport to watch
I’ll watch any sport if one of the teams has an Alabama
Script A on their jersey.
Who is your favorite author?
I could never pick one author or one book.
In the evening, would you rather play a game,
visit a relative, watch a movie, or read?
Would you rather win the lottery or work at the
perfect job? And why?
Win the lottery, then I’d be able to work at the perfect
Aside from necessities, what one thing could
you not go a day without?
What’s your favorite zoo animal?
What’s your favorite type of foreign food?
What’s your favorite family recipe?
My Granny’s cornbread dressing. I cooked for
Thanksgiving and she said I got the dressing right. I
had to go by trial and error since she never wrote the
What was your favorite subject in school?
Math. I was on the Math Team in high school.
Who was your favorite teacher in school
Mrs. Wade, my first grade teacher, because she taught
me to read. (My kindergarten teacher wouldn’t teach
me how to read, so she’s at the bottom of my list.)
My other favorite was Mr. Heltz, my high school Latin
teacher. He was known for the crazy ties he wore as a
form of protest.
As Vice President of
GAE, I want to focus
on our members and
listen to learn what
they believe we need to
accomplish. I want to
see GAE increase our
communication so that
we’re hearing the needs
and concerns from a
greater percentage of our members.
