FOCUS ON:
PERTH
Truly unique, truly incredible
A state capital settled under permanent
blue skies on Australia’s Western Coast;
Perth is actually the most isolated city of its
size on Earth. However, this superstar city is
far from lonely, closer to Indonesia than it is
Sydney, Perth has visitors from all across the
Indian Ocean and even further afield giving
it an incredible multi-cultural atmosphere,
inspirational dishes and some of the most
eclectic bunch of people on the planet.
This ever-growing, state capital city is
forward-thinking and modern, still a teenager
for sure; this city is less than 200 years old.
Though, that doesn’t mean it isn’t packed full
of unbelievable activities, Aboriginal history
and unforgettable adventures. Docking in the
port town of Fremantle, there’s plenty to get
stuck into from the minute you step off the ship.
Home to the impressive Fremantle Prison, you
can discover the history of the convicts who
built their jail over 140 years ago. Plus, there’s
almost 50 acres of heritage land in the area,
with over 250 historic buildings dating back to
the 19th century – for such a young city there’s
so much to it.
Perched on the Indian Ocean and Swan
River, Perth is truly picture-perfect, add to
that it’s moniker of the sunniest state capital
– boasting over 3,000 hours of sunshine a
year – and you’ve got one unbeatable city.
Admire the great outdoors here; whether that’s
wandering amidst the colours of Kings Park
or Botanic Garden, relaxing with an ice cold
drink on Cottesloe Beach or trying your hand
at surfing at Scarborough Beach – which is
bound to be a whole lot sunnier than the one
in Yorkshire! In fact, with over 40 surfing spots
and 19 beaches, there’s plenty to enjoy for
watersports fans.
Food and wine lovers will rejoice at what
Perth has to offer. The Swan Valley is home of
the oldest and busiest wine region in Australia.
It even has a dedicated map with a 32km food
and wine tour. As the sun goes down, the
city becomes abuzz with life throughout bars,
gastro pubs and eateries. Award-winning chefs
offer up award-winning dishes from all across
the globe in hip restaurants around the city,
and for one amazing end to your incredible
time in Perth, you can toast to good times on
a rooftop bar as you drink in the intoxicating
sunset views.
Perth really does enchant all who grace it
with its presence. It has an incredible amount
to offer and asks nothing in return. Whether you
stop for an afternoon or a few days, there’s no
forgetting this incredible city.
