„Best of“ Belgium and the Netherlands

Amsterdam – Rotterdam – Antwerp – Gent – Dordrecht – Amsterdam
Day 1: Amsterdam (Netherlands) – embarkation
Embarkation from 03:00 pm. Before dinner, your
cruise director will invite you to a welcome drink and
give you an overview of your river journey.
Day 2: Amsterdam (UNESCO World Heritage) /
Today, your cruiser will be moored the whole day in
Amsterdam, meaning that there will be plenty of time
to explore this multi-cultural city. There will be a possibility
to join a sightseeing tour (optional) which will
be mainly a walking tour, returning by boat through
Amsterdam’s characteristic and picturesque town
canals. Return to your cruiser for lunch on board.
In the afternoon you may join a coach excursion to
Keukenhof Gardens (optional). In the world’s most
beautiful spring gardens you will experience spectacular
flower shows, inspiring surprises and unique
gardening art. “Cast off!” will be at 07:00 pm. Your
cruise will start during tonight’s dinner on board with
the helmsman heading for Rotterdam.
Day 3: Rotterdam / Delft / The Hague /
The Dutch metropolis Rotterdam with the world’s
largest inland port will be reached at night. After
breakfast, your (optional) land excursion to the
North Sea coast will start from here. The first stop
will be Delft. This city framed by canals is famous
for its blue and white hand painted Delft porcelain.
Enjoy a visit to a porcelain manufactory where “Delft
Blue” is crafted. Thereafter, continue to The Hague.
A sightseeing tour will take you past palaces, the
royal stables, government buildings, museums and
eventually to the port and beach of Scheveningen,
Holland’s largest seaside resort. Return to your cruiser
for lunch while you continue your journey.
Day 4: Antwerp / Leuven (Belgium) (UNESCO
Antwerp’s history reaches back to the Middle Ages.
The city has a worldwide reputation because of its
centuries old diamond quarter where thousands
of diamond traders, grinders and polishers have
settled down. In addition to that, Flemish architecture
is omnipresent and well worth seeing. Also,
during a sightseeing tour (optional), you will repeatedly
walk on the tracks of Peter Paul Rubens who
is entombed in St Jacob’s church. In the afternoon
you will have the possibility to join a coach excursion
to Leuven (optional). Although this city has
become famous for its art of beer brewing, you will
be enchanted by the wonderful architecture of this
centuries-old and lively town. Return to your cruiser
for dinner on board.
Day 5: Antwerp / Brussels (Belgium) (UNESCO
In the morning there will be an (optional) coach
excursion to Brussels. During a sightseeing tour of
Belgium’s capital you will, of course, see the renowned
places of interest, such as the Grand Place, the
Atomium and ‘Manneken Pis’, but also the Sablon
quarter, the Palace of Justice, St Michael’s cathedral
and much more. Return to your cruiser for lunch and
continue your river journey.
Day 6: Gent / Bruges (Belgium) (UNESCO World
Gent, Flanders’ pearl will be reached at night. After
your breakfast you will be able to join a sightseeing
tour (optional). Being one of Europe’s mightiest cities
during the 16th century, Gent will enchant you owing
to its unique townscape. In addition to that, there are
plenty of cultural treasures to discover, from the Museum
of Design to the masterpieces by the van Eyck
brothers. In the afternoon there will be an opportunity
to join a coach excursion to Bruges (optional). More
often than not, this jewel case is called the “world’s
most beautiful open air museum”. Superb guild houses,
magnificent churches and romantic canals form
the townscape of this unique city. In the evening you
will continue your river journey.
Day 7: Dordrecht / Kinderdijk
(Netherlands; UNESCO World Heritage)
During today’s forenoon you will have the opportunity
to join a sightseeing tour (optional) of Dordrecht.
Dordrecht is Holland’s oldest town and, owing to
its favourable location, it has been an important
trading town since times immemorial. Wealth, history
and culture are today well perceivable. In the
afternoon, you will have the possibility to experience
a very typical piece of Holland. The windmills
of Kinderdijk are a UNESCO World Heritage and
count among the most photographed objects in the
Netherlands. Return to your cruiser for your gala dinner
and embark on the final leg back to Amsterdam.
Day 8: Amsterdam (Netherlands) – disembarkation
Disembarkation after breakfast.
