From Holland to East Friesland
5 days cruise on board MS AMADEUS CLASSIC PPPPsup.
Amsterdam – Lelystad – Lemmer – Groningen – Emden – Leer/Papenburg
Day 1: Amsterdam (Netherlands) (UNESCO World
Heritage) – embarkation
Arrival in Amsterdam. Possibility to join a guided
sightseeing tour (optional) of the pulsating Dutch
metropolis. Embarkation from 03:00 pm. Before
dinner, your cruise director will invite you to a welcome
drink and give you an overview of your river
journey. After your dinner on board you may enjoy
Amsterdam’s nightlife because your cruiser will stay
moored here until the morning hours.
Day 2: Lelystad / Zwolle and Giethoorn (Netherlands)
In the morning your cruiser will start on Dutch waterways,
leave Amsterdam, cross Lake Ijsselmeer and
reach Lelystad around lunch time. Immediately after
lunch you will have the possibility to join a coach
excursion (optional) and travel to Zwolle first. Zwolle
has a great and rich cultural history. It had been part
of the Hanseatic League from very early on and still
today, impressive merchant houses are a testimony
of the town’s affluence. Zwolle’s medieval town centre
invites to stay and stroll. Thereafter, continue to
Giethoorn. The unmistakably characteristic picture
of this village is determined by its many town canals,
its typical little high white wooden bridges and
its thatched farm houses. This idyllic atmosphere
combined with the enchantment of its surrounding
landscape have bestowed Giethoorn the nickname
“Green Venice”. After a sightseeing walk your coach
will take you to Lemmer where you will re-board your
cruiser for dinner.
Day 3: Groningen (Netherlands)
Your cruiser will have left Lemmer early in the morning.
This day, you will spend the forenoon on board
and enjoy the plain and green Frisian river landscape.
Groningen will be reached in the afternoon
and your local guide will already be waiting for you
at the pier. During a sightseeing walk (optional) you
will be shown a lot of culture, many architectural
monuments as well as a superb historic centre.
Day 4: Emden / Wadden Sea (UNESCO World
You will already have reached Emden in Germany’s
west in the early morning hours. Your coach excursion
(optional) to Greetsiel under the Motto “Wadden
Sea” will start from here. The Wadden Sea is
Europe’s region richest in birdlife, Germany’s most
important nature reserve and a UNESCO biosphere
reserve. Return to your cruiser for lunch. Thereafter,
continue your excursion and visit the city of Leer in
East Friesland. During a sightseeing tour (optional)
you will visit the old Council House, the historic scale,
house “Samson” and much more. During your
gala dinner on board, your helmsman will navigate
the final leg to Papenburg.
Day 5: Leer/Papenburg (Germany) –
Disembarkation after breakfast. Thereafter, we recommend
a visit to the Meyer shipyard. During your
guided tour you will be able to see real “giants of
the oceans” and experience modern superlative
shipbuilding as close as it can get.
