This page is a selection of the
chassis’ that we do. Please
enquire if the chassis you
require is not listed here.
All Richards chassis are manufactured in the UK, using locally sourced materials and
locally based machine shops. They are located close to the steel city, Sheffield, and
therefore optimise the use of local steel, ensuring that all their chassis are formed from
2.5mm British steel which are all galvanised as standard. All profiling is done ‘in house’
using their own laser machine, enabling them to have greater control over the quality
of parts used and the materials that they are formed from. The chassis are made using
2.5mm side rails which are 25% heavier than the standard 2.0mm rails. Overall this
gives a small increase in the vehicle weight but has a massive effect on the long term
durability of the chassis. Bolt on crossmembers are not supplied with Richards chassis
but are available separately - see DA5300 above.
Chassis have bolt on gearbox crossmember as standard with anti-roll bar brackets front
and rear. The main legs are in pressed pieces as original made from 2mm steel with
3mm stiffeners fitted and spotwelded internally for added strength where outriggers and
suspension mounting points are fitted, effectively giving you 5mm of material where most
needed. Bolt on rail for rear tub mountings and LH & RH steering damper bracket welded
on as standard. All tapped holes re-drilled and tapped, excess galv removed with riv nuts
fitted for front & rear mud flaps, power steering pipe clips and step. Rear suspension
upper link bush (A-frame) fitted with new M16 bolt and sleeve to fit old level bush.
Original Chassis Heavy-duty Chassis
Low-alloy steel, meant for
stamping at a thickness of
2mm for legs. Stamping
technology is well-suited for
mass production, but limits
the choice of materials to
only malleable sheet metals
of lower durability. An
additional limitation is the
thickness of the stamped
material – for this reason
certain laminated elements
of the frame are particularly
susceptible to corrosion.
Legs made from 3mm thick steel.
Outriggers and cross members
produced with 3mm, 4mm or 8mm
thick material. High-durability S355
grade alloyed steel used.
Legs are welded from
two stamped halves.
Remaining frame elements
also stamped. In order to
attain adequate thickness
of the material on features
exposed to greater
structural stress, two-part
lamination was used - e.g.
on the outriggers of the rear
arms. This kind of bi-metal
combination is particularly
susceptible to corrosion.
All frame elements are laser cut
and shaped with digital presses.
Legs are welded from four parts.
Items that require extra strength use
thicker steel, not lamination.
Less stress on chassis and other
components due to less flex in the
chassis and outriggers.
Non UV stabilized paint with
several mud traps.
Hot galvanization – high-quality
coating which achieves a quality
durable finish. Construction
designed from the start for
galvanization with appropriate size
holes and flow ways. Additional
inspection holes in the legs and
other closed profiles so the chassis
can be washed out internally or
ideal for wax protection. Mud
accumulating points kept to a
