K-Sim Cargo with 3D virtual application
Kongsberg Digital continues to develop
3D virtual applications for its K-Sim Cargo
models to deliver improved familiarization
on deck and greater training value. In ad-dition
to a customized VLCC model, 3D
functionality is now also provided with our
standard SCC-II model, which is based on
a real Suez Max crude oil carrier.
The SCC-II simulator model enables
integrated, real-time exercises for ship
officers training on liquid cargo handling
operations. The simulation of the deck
area in 3D, enables the student to zoom
in and interact with valves, flanges,
cargo tank hatches, pressure vacuum
valves and crude oil washing (COW)
machines for local operation. Visual
effects such as leaks and loading arm
connections are included to add even
more realism, contributing further to
the quality of training available for gen-eral
and hazardous cargo operations.
A simulated CCTV system provides three
camera angles; views from both manifolds,
and a third camera with a view from the
jetty has been improved in order to match
the visual quality of the 3D deck view.
The 3D deck view can be presented and
operated on a desktop set-up a large
touch-screen, or be utilized in combina-tion
with a traditional Big View system.
In addition to the new 3D functionality,
the SCC-II model is also delivered with
a sophisticated integrated automation
system to replicate CCR (Cargo Con-trol

Room) operations and additional
process mimic for operation of the sys-tems
outside of the CCR.
Kongsberg Maritime’s state-of-the-art
load calculator, K-Load, is also integrat-ed
in the model. The system uses the
various tank levels and corresponding
specific gravity, and calculates hydro-static
conditions, intact stability, longi-tudinal
strain, tank content and damage
stability. It can also produce ullage re-ports
and loading reports.
