What is Copyright?
Copyright law goes way back to the
days of Benjamin Franklin. Any creative
work is copyrighted, even if not
registered with the copyright office.
• Even if a creative work doesn’t
have the © symbol, assume it’s
still copyrighted. As soon as a

expression,” it is copyrighted.
• If you purchased a book,
streaming service, video, game,
sheet music, etc., you have a
legitimate copy for your limited
personal use. You haven’t

• Why is it important? It’s the law.
It’s only right to respect the rights
and property of others, just as
others need to respect your
