CLASS Notes 1990 Tracey Jackson was named the South Carolina Career Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women of South Carolina. Jackson is the executive director of Piedmont Care, a nonprofit which provides HIV/AIDS care, prevention, and advocacy in the Upstate. Jackson received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science. 1995 Scott Halkett came on board as assistant coach with the USC Upstate men’s soccer team. During his collegiate years, he was a member of the team that advanced four times to the NCAA Tournament, won two Peach Belt Conference Championships and four Peach Belt Conference Tournament titles. Amy Martin Mitchell received the Golden Apple Teacher Award in February. 1997 Taft Matney was sworn in as a member of Mauldin City Council. He is the editor of Crescent magazine and chief executive consultant of TM Public Relations and Government Affairs, a company that offers a host of marketing services. He and his wife, Addy, have one son. A variety of academic and athletic camps for elementary, middle and high school students. ACADEMICS · FITNESS SPORTS · NATURE 2003 Lisa Pennington was recognized as the North Carolina Outstanding Mathematics Teacher of the Year by the Gaston County Board of Education in 2013. She is currently the assistant principal at East Gaston High School. 2006 Robyn Simmons Smith is a guidance counselor at Woodruff Middle School. She and her husband, Brett, have two sons, William and Elijah. 2008 Hunter Jolley was named 2014 Teacher of the Year at Boiling Springs High School. He is a chemistry and environmental science teacher and the district’s lead science teacher. He also serves on the state science council. He’s currently working on his doctorate in education leadership at Gardner Webb University. Adela Trejo Guerrero is a Spanish teacher at Chapman High School. 2009 Scott Emory was accepted into the Sigma Theta Tau International-Geriatric Nurse Leadership Academy. He has also www.uscupstate.edu/summercamps been awarded an Archbold Scholarship through the National Hartford Center for Gerontological Nursing Excellence. 2010 Lindsay Harris joined the staff of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce in October. She is responsible for recruiting new members and encouraging support for the Chamber’s numerous activities and events. 2011 Melissa Trejo Guerrero is a first grade teacher at Hendrix Elementary School. She is currently working on her masters. Noemi Guerrero is a Spanish teacher at Langston Charter Middle School and currently graduated from Southern Wesleyan University with her Masters in Education and Classroom Leadership. Marriages Andrew Jordan ‘13 married Morgan Osburn on October 5, 2013. Adela Guerrero ’13 married Omar Trejo on June 9, 2012. Melissa Trejo ’11 married Eric Guerrero on June 29, 2013.
