Renate Strasser is chief executive
officer of NewRe, a wholly-owned
subsidiary of Munich Re. She has
been in the position since January
2016 and has responsibility for the
entire legal entity operating out
of Zurich, including traditional
property and casualty reinsurance
business, structured reinsurance
solutions, weather derivative
business and life business.
Since her appointment, Strasser
has driven a strong diversification of the NewRe book which has
resulted in a significant and profitable growth in the various business
segments.
Before joining the Munich Re Group, Strasser worked as an
assistant professor for corporate finance at the University of
Klagenfurt for six years. She entered Munich Re in 2004 as consultant
pricing for aviation, developing aviation pricing tools and pricing
complex aviation risks. From 2007 onwards, she took over the role
of head of aviation facultative, where she was responsible for the
worldwide portfolio.
Regarding a career in reinsurance she says: “Our industry is
changing rapidly, and we, who work in the business, have to be
prepared to adapt and to change in the same manner. I really enjoy
that aspect of my work.
“Additionally, I feel fortunate to be part of a truly international and
diverse team that strives on exchanging different views on a matter. I
like how we are constantly seeking new out of the box opportunities
and thinking of innovative solutions to drive business forward.”
Strasser holds an MBA from the University of Graz, Austria and
a PhD in business administration with a focus on corporate finance
from the University of Klagenfurt, Austria.
LINDA VENTRESCA

Company: AXIS Capital Holdings
Linda Ventresca has responsibility
for guiding the development of the
company’s strategic priorities and
for driving the delivery of those
priorities across the organisation.
She also leads the company’s
enterprise-wide transformation
programme, positioning AXIS to
capitalise on the changes reshaping
the insurance marketplace.
She joined the company as vice
president, corporate development
in January 2003, and was latterly the company’s head of investor
relations. Prior to joining AXIS, she was an investment associate at
MMC Capital, where she worked extensively with AXIS as a portfolio
company of the Trident II fund. She holds an MBA from Columbia
Business School and a BSE in bioengineering from the University of
Pennsylvania.
