Jayne Plunkett is group chief risk
officer of Pan-Asian life insurer
AIA Group. Her appointment
took effect on 1 November 2019.
Plunkett is also a member of the
group’s executive committee.
Prior to joining AIA, Plunkett was
regional president for Swiss Re’s
business in Asia, and a member of
its board of directors.
She was responsible for running
all facets of the business and led
over 1,900 employees in eight markets. Plunkett joined Swiss Re in
2006 as head of property & casualty underwriting in the US, following
Swiss Re’s acquisition of GE Insurance Solutions. From 2008 to 2012,
she was head of casualty underwriting for Asia.
She started her career at John Deere Insurance Company in 1992.
Plunkett is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member
of the American Academy of Actuaries. She has been a member of the
Women’s Leadership Board at Harvard Kennedy School since 2010
and a young global leader of the World Economic Forum since 2009.

KARA RAIGUEL

Kara Raiguel is the president and
chief executive officer of General Re
Corporation, a Berkshire Hathaway
company. Since joining the group
in May 2016, her priority has been
to build upon Gen Re’s unique
platform to be a broader and more
meaningful partner to its clients
while maintaining underwriting
integrity and efficiency.
Under her leadership, Gen Re
has grown in almost every product
line, strengthened its balance sheet in a very challenging market
environment, and expanded and improved upon its client offerings.
Property/casualty North America has experienced over 80 percent
growth since 2016.
Previously, Raiguel was vice president at Berkshire Hathaway’s
reinsurance division in Stamford, Connecticut where she was
involved with pricing loss portfolio transfers and acquisitions in the
reinsurance division as well as prospecting reinsurance and insurance
opportunities.
At Berkshire Hathaway, Raiguel was also responsible for Guard
Insurance Group, a workers’ compensation and liability insurance
operation based in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, as well as the division’s
India Reinsurance portfolio and Berkshire Hathaway’s financial
guaranty insurer, BHAC.
She supervised the ground-up establishment of a California
workers’ compensation portfolio for Berkshire Hathaway Group
member National Liability & Fire Insurance Company. In addition,
she oversaw the 2016 launch of the division’s insurance venture,
CoverYourBusiness.com, an internet-based operation providing
insurance directly to small- and medium-sized businesses throughout
the US.
Raiguel began her career in 1994 with CIGNA Property & Casualty
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, joining the Berkshire Hathaway Group
in 2001. Her experience as an underwriter spans most casualty lines
including general liability, workers’ compensation and medical
malpractice. She earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics
from Ursinus College and is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.
As part of contributing to the insurance community, Raiguel is
focused on creating a unique culture of inclusiveness, fostering honest
and respectful conversations, and creating personal and leadership
development opportunities at Gen Re.
