Pina Albo began her career as a
lawyer in Toronto, Canada. After
practising in real estate, corporate
finance and M&A, she accepted a
position at Munich Re as a claims
expert. During her 25-year career at
Munich Re, Albo held increasingly
senior positions which included
head of casualty unit, North
America/UK and international
D&O/EPL; head of casualty
operations at Munich Reinsurance
Company of Canada and Temple Insurance Company; executive head
of department UK and Ireland; president, national clients division,
Munich Re America; and president, reinsurance division, Munich Re
Albo’s last position at Munich Re was member of the board of
executive management where her responsibilities included P&C
business and operations in Europe and Latin America.
Albo currently sits on the boards of directors for the Reinsurance
Group of America, the Association of Bermuda Insurers and
Reinsurers, Blue Marble Microinsurance (observer) and Attune
Insurance (observer). She also serves as an ambassador for the
Insurance Supper Club, an international organisation that aims to
improve networking opportunities for women across the finance and
Albo has been a member of many industry boards including
the board of the Insurance Information Institute, the board of the
Reinsurance Association of America, and the national board of the
Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation.
She has been recognised for her contributions to the insurance
industry and has received numerous awards including the Association
of Professional Insurance Women’s Woman of the Year (2011). She
was designated a Top Influencer in Insurance Business America’s List
of Hot 100 (2014) and placed on Intelligent Insurer’s list of Top 100
Women in Re/insurance (2014 and 2015).
Albo holds a Maîtrise en Droit, International and European
Community Law, from L’Université d’Aix-Marseille III, Aix-en-
Provence, France; a Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School,
York University, Toronto, Canada; and a BA in languages from the
University of Winnipeg, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Shevawn Barder is chief executive
officer and principal of AM Re
Syndicate. Barder established this
managing general underwriter,
a boutique specialty reinsurer,
with her husband in August 2013.
Building on their past experiences,
the Barders returned to the
reinsurance industry and expanded
their original model to incorporate
specialty lines of reinsurance with
an emphasis on quota shares.
AM Re has a panel of ‘A’-rated international security. For 2018, AM
Re wrote a combined income of $200,000,000.
As CEO and co-founder, Barder’s mandate is to take AM Re
forward into the next stage of development underwriting niche
specialty disciplines in the North American market.
Prior to AM Re, she was co-founder of Marine Re and was part
of the partnership that built the agency from startup to its sale to
Ironshore. Marine Re transitioned from London, UK to Toronto,
Canada and ultimately Charlotte, NC.
Barder started her career in 1986 at Lloyd’s of London, as a
graduate trainee broker with Willis Faber in non-marine casualty
insurance. She was a Lloyd’s broker in the casualty market for 10 years
working for Willis Faber, Alexander Howden and Sedgwick Insurance
Brokers before moving to underwriting.
She has been recognised for her
contributions to the insurance industry and
has received numerous awards.
