Why did you choose to work in this industry?
My early connections with the insurance industry were
through people and companies operating in Bermuda. The
entrepreneurial spirit and intellectual capital, which has
been a large part of the growth of this market, inspired
me to specialise as a banker for the sector, broadening my
experience and global connectivity.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I have had the good fortune of developing and leading two
successful financing and client relationship focused businesses
across a local to global framework. The overarching joy for
me is the challenge, both on a strategic and deal level, and to
have worked with many incredibly talented and motivated
individuals who have inspired me along the way.
What has been the biggest challenge you have encountered?
There is no question that the opportunity to build a sustainable
and profitable business is both exciting as well as challenging
on many levels, but brings unexpected hurdles along the way.
Sometimes real or perceived barriers can be protracted and
require shifting, so I’ve learned that resilience is as important
as teamwork and experience to get the job done.
If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what
would it have been?
Perhaps a career in law or foreign service. Having grown
up in a multicultural and bilingual household, there was no
shortage of social and political debate at our dinner table,
along with Saturday morning language school. As it turned
out, I have been fortunate to work in a global field that has
enabled me to use my background in more ways than I could
have ever imagined.
“Resilience is as important as teamwork
and experience to get the job done.”
