Dr. Stephen Litton
During his 41 years in orthodontic practice in Golden Valley,
Minnesota, Dr. Litton provided many services to the specialty and
to organized dentistry. He was co-chair of the Doctors Scientific
Program for the 2003 AAO Annual Session, served as general
arrangements chair of the 2011 Annual Session, and chaired
the AAO Council on Membership, Ethics and Judicial Concerns
(COMEJC). He served on several AAO task forces and committees.
Dr. Litton spent a total of 11 years as delegate or alternate delegate
from the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists to the AAO House
of Delegates. In addition, he was president of the MSO and of
the Minnesota Association of Orthodontists. He currently serves
on the Board of Smiles Change Lives/Virginia Brown Orthodontic
Partnership. In dentistry, he was treasurer of the Minnesota Dental
Association and served on several MDA committees, and is currently
the president of the Minnesota Dental Foundation.
After completing his orthodontic residency at the University of
Minnesota, Dr. Litton also received a PhD in anatomy from the
university and subsequently was a long-time assistant professor
in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Minnesota
Medical School. His teaching responsibilities included gross
anatomy for dental students. He was also chief of dentistry at
Mt. Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis.
In addition to publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals including
the AJO-DO, Dr. Litton has lectured nationally on oral care and
Sjogren’s Syndrome (an auto-immune disorder in which dry mouth
and dental caries are common symptoms).
