Luckily, no one at the office notices I wear just the faintest hint of flyspray mixed with my perfume. Add in those warm, sunny afternoons and the allure of being at the barn with my horses is so strong, I can hardly stay at my desk. But truthfully, there are exciting times ahead for Miniature Horse World Magazine. We were encouraged to enter the magazine in the American Horse Publications media contest several months ago. The first announcement that MHW was acknowledged by AHP was met with kudos both from our Facebook readership and of course, our publisher. This is the first time MHW has been awarded in the annual contest and it is quite the feather in our cap to be recognized in this world of big horse publications and in two divisions, no less. Our December 2012 Front Cover that featured the World Champion Supreme Halter horse, Grahams Ragtime is a finalist and an article that appeared in the April/ May 2012 issue titled, Weaning Woes, was also acknowledged. By the time you are reading this, the final placings will have been announced at the AHP conference and I will share those results with you in the next issue. Change is good. Starting with this issue we were able to give our readers and advertisers a few perks. MHW again arrives in a polybag wrapper… no more covering up our beautiful front cover image. And our full time and contract advertisers now enjoy a free link to their farm and business websites via our online version of the magazine. Research shows our online readers visit and shop through this media venue and we are happy to offer it free of charge to our committed advertisers. Take a look at the new equine product advertisers on the following pages and support them with your patronage. They provide quality products for minis that you can’t find just anywhere. Spend your hard earned dollars with these MHW supporters and let them know you saw them in the pages of Miniature Horse World. If you’re ready for some summertime showtime with your mini, we’ve got you covered. Our “don’t leave home without it” Packing To Show checklist is included in this issue; just in time to help you load your trailer for a weekend of showing. More helpful advice on what you’ll need for the showring comes from the fashionista herself, Suzi Vlietstra, president of Hobby Horse Clothing Company. And we top that off with a question and answer segment featuring a panel of AMHA judges who offer their insightful advice and opinions…a must read for today’s exhibitor. Wishing you happy trails this summer and “mini” blues! editor’s notes by Melissa Powell
