The Bowls Development Alliance Coaching System is the only coaching scheme that is supported
by the EIBA Ltd and Bowls England, whilst still recognising previous Bowls Coaching accreditation.
All coaches, regardless of coaching scheme, are eligible to become members of the BDA ‘Coach
Bowls’ membership package. The benefits of this package include a comprehensive insurance
scheme, reduction in costs of eligible courses and modules and regular updates and
The Coach Bowls scheme includes a ‘Play Bowls Activator’ Module. This 4 hour module is geared
towards supporting club volunteers to introduce new bowlers to the club for the first time. It gives
ideas on meeting, greeting and staying in touch with new bowlers as well as running a fun enjoyable
first introduction to the sport.
The Level One Award in Coaching Bowls was launched in September 2013. This is a nationally
recognised qualification for coaches working with beginners and allows coaches to independently
deliver ‘Play Bowls 4 Fun’ programmes as well as coaching within a club environment.
The Level Two Certificate in Coaching Bowls was launched in April 2013. It is a nationally recognised
qualification for those coaches who are working towards developing the performance of bowlers.
The ‘Working with Disabled People in Bowls’ module was launched in January 2015. This 4 hour
module looks at best practice when working with various disabilities and includes both practical and
theoretical advice to coaches and volunteers.
There is also a 4 hour ‘Safeguarding in Bowls’ module available for all Club Welfare Officers. This
is a vital module for all clubs to ensure that their environment if suitable for children and vulnerable

There is a Strategic Group in place which oversees all strategic decisions for coaching as well as a
Coach Education Advisory group which supports the development and review all technical content
for all courses. These run alongside the group of County Coaching Coordinators who are tasked
with local communication. It is their role to reflect the views and needs of the local coaches.
