98 With today’s advanced level of technology tracking everything from how money is spent to our whereabouts, it was only a matter of time until devices could be created that actually track the activity of our own bodies. Fitbit is a company known for its products of the same name, which are activity trackers, wireless-enabled wearable technology devices that measure data such as the number of steps walked, heart rate, quality of sleep, steps climbed and other personal metrics. A new collaboration between Power2Practice and Fitbit is now bringing information gathered from patients wearing the Fitbits through Power2Practice software and directly to doctors. Power2Practice is the first cloud-based electronic medical record (EMR) designed specifically for integrative care. Created by Dr. Paul Savage in 2014, the advanced patient portal and business development platform for integrative, anti-aging and functional medicine is endorsed by The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). It is now considered to be the go-to software for physicians who want to practice medicine their way, educating and empowering patients to take charge of their health while becoming part of a larger community of like-minded physicians. “This is a significant investment and we are very serious about the opportunity and the upside of Power2Practice,” said Bryce Moe, managing director of SkyPoint Ventures. The company chose to invest in Power2Practice because it believes in disruptive technologies and business models, meaning something that comes in and changes the perspective or approach in an industry or niche. Moe said that Power2Practice is an example of that. Dr. Savage was inspired to accelerate the integrative model of medicine, which focuses on optimizing each patient’s long-term health by customizing therapies and treatments based on the patient’s individual needs. “Every EMR I looked at fell short of what I needed it to do—talk to patients, know how to manage nutrition, monitor exercise, write compounds, integrate with specialty labs and help me with marketing, scheduling and billing. No EMR could meet all of these needs. After a long and hard search, I realized that I had to build one—so I did!” said Savage.
