KNOW_Winter 2014_FinalSinglePages (2) | 5 KNOW & Tell NEWS Past GAE President Tapped for National Connected Superintendents Summit at White House Former GAE President and current superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools Luvenia Jackson was selected by the U.S. Department of Education as one of 120 top school leaders from across America to participate in the National Connected Superintendents Summit hosted by President Barack Obama at the White House. In June 2013, Obama announced the ConnectED Initiative, starting with a goal of connecting 99 percent of students to next-generation connectivity within five years. Model schools and districts across the country are using technology to create personalized learning environments. Jackson is one of three Georgia school superintendents who were recognized for their leadership in helping transition their districts to digital learning. This unique conference brought together officials from throughout America to share with one another and the U.S. Department of Education promising to use technology to transform teaching “and learning approaches to instruction that are student-centered. “I am honored and humbled to have been selected to represent Clayton County Public Schools, as one of 120 school superintendents in the nation, to lead capacity building for education technology,” said Jackson. “For CCPS, this important endeavor began with a solid foundation of technology infrastructure.” The Flight Path of Georgia’s Spelling Bee Become involved and help support and/or run your school and county bees. In this role, Jim will ensure that all of Georgia’s professional educators meet the qualifications and prescribed standards set by the commission. Jim teaches seventh and eighth grade Social Studies at Saddle Ridge Middle School in the Walker County School District. He is president of the Walker County Association of Educators. He officiates high school football and soccer in Georgia and in 2010, was named Georgia’s Soccer Official of the Year. Jim is a longtime member of the Georgia Association of Educators as well as Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Beta Gamma and Phi Alpha Theta fraternities. He also belongs to the Georgia Athletic Officials Association and the National Association of Sports Officials. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Augusta State University, a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota and a doctorate degree in Education from Arizona State University. He resides in Catoosa County.
