Questionnaires are sent to all candidates, and if
individuals decide not to return the completed
questionnaires, then they have eliminated
themselves from consideration for endorsement.
The questionnaires, which focus on educational
issues, are then actually read to see which
candidates have answers that align with our
organizations’ legislative priorities (which are also
a result of what members feel are important).
The candidates whose questionnaire responses
are consistent with the direction of our state
and national organizations are then invited to
participate in the interview process. Candidates
who do not return the questionnaire eliminate
themselves from the endorsement process as
do candidates who refuse to participate in the
interview process.
The last step of the endorsement process
for all candidates involves voting whether
or not to endorse by members within our
organizations elected to represent us. In GAE,
the elected members of our FPE (Fund for
Public Education) Committee vote on which
candidates to endorse with the elected members
of our Board of Directors either concurring with
or vetoing the recommendations.
As I hope you can see, being part of a national
organization makes a difference and impacts
the state organization—GAE—of which we
are a part.
Being part of a state coalition of educational
organizations is a solid foundation on which to
impact public education within Georgia; being
part of a member-drive organization with a
national component impacts who we are as a
state organization.
You make a difference by being a member of
an organization that has, in fact, three tiers:
local, state, and national.
Thank you for being a member
of your local association.
Thank you for being a member
of your state association.
Thank you for being a member
of your national association.
