information on our Defined Benefit Plan. Some
of those facts are that on average approximately
84% is funded by Employee Contributions and
Investment returns. Other facts include during FY18
approximately 4.7 Billion dollars in pension benefits
was paid to Georgia Retired Teachers. This money

Pension provides educators a retirement
with dignity as well as providing a huge

of Georgia.
Debbie Simonds is a past GAE President and current
TRS Retired Teacher Trustee. She has served in this
capacity since July 1, 2012. The most important
aspect of her position is educating herself on the
issues related to managing an effective Defined
Benefit Plan for all of Georgia’s Retired and Active
plan members.
