MEET GEORGIA’S NEW STATE SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT RICHARD WOODS “Mrs. Stokes, Mrs. Michaels, and Coach Cox…” newly seated State School Superintendent Richard Woods remembers some of the amazing teachers he had as a student and credits the impression they made on him as to why he chose to become an educator himself. “I enjoy being around young people – so being a teacher just seemed like a natural fit,” says Woods. As a result of having several WWII veterans as history teachers, he would later go on to teach high school social studies before becoming a school administrator. Woods most recently served as the director of both a Pre-K school and an alternative school. Having only been on the job for roughly two months, Woods already has a vision for Georgia’s public schools and is strategically making steps to bring that vision to fruition. He took a moment to meet with GAE for an opportunity to be introduced to the educators on the front line. 8 | KNOW • Volume 13 Issue 1
