KNOW & Tell In Memoriam DR. ROBERT “BOB” THREATT GAE Past President Dr. Robert “Bob” Threatt served as GAE’s first President (1970-1971) after the merger of Georgia Teachers & Education Association and Georgia Educators Association. Dr. Threatt would go on to become the 13th President of Morris Brown College, and served until 1984. At the time of his appointment as President of Morris Brown, President Threatt was the youngest person to be named to the position in the school’s history. President Threatt was a member of the Atlanta University Consortium and was chief organizer for the Consortium ROTC, which still exists today. Dr. Threatt organized the Council of HBCU Past College Presidents. He also consulted for the Georgia Accrediting Commission and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). President Threatt was laid to rest on Saturday, February 7, 2015. 6 | KNOW • Volume 13 Issue 1 STATE REPRESENTATIVE BILL CUMMINGS Former GAE Past President Bill Cummings passed away on at the age of 85. Born in Chester, SC, President Cummings served in the U.S. Army before serving in public school education for over three (3) decades. He served two terms as President of the Georgia Association of Educators, and served in various education leadership positions on local, state and national levels. President Cummings was a tireless supporter of West Georgia College serving on the UWG Board of Trustees from 1982 to 1994. In addition to his education career, Bill served twenty-six years as State Representative in the Georgia House of Representatives, representing Polk County and parts of Bartow and Floyd Counties. He served as Chairman of the Retirement Committee and also served as a member of the Appropriations Committee, Ways and Means Committee and the Interstate Cooperation Committee. Memorial services for President Cummings were held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. GAE ALSO SUFFERED THE LOSS OF TWO LONGTIME STAFF MEMBERS IN 2014-2015: Dorothy “Dot” L. Davison – passed away on January 17, 2014. Raymon A. King – passed away on August 8, 2014.
