Her ability to think outside the box will be an asset to the NEA members in the state of Georgia. Daniel G. Sobczak My fellow GAE members, It is with pleasure that I announce my candidacy to be the next NEA Director from the great state of Georgia. I have been fortunate to serve on the Executive Board of the Organization of DeKalb Educators since 2008 and on the Board of Directors representing District 2 since 2012. New Congressional leadership is looking at ways to change education policy in this country, and we need to make sure that they are listening to the people on the front lines. Change needs to be done with the educators rather than to the educators. Politicians run their campaigns saying they want to fix education and stop the unions from standing in the way of quality education for students. I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember ever standing in the way of a high quality education for my students. I do know that decisions are being made so far away from any classroom that the results have been disastrous. We have a generation of children who are trained to fill in circles on an answer document but aren’t really taught how to think. This has to change and this is my mission if you allow me to serve you as your NEA director. The policy makers have to see just how much our students are able to do if they are given the chance to shine rather than given another test. I ask that you please give me the chance to be that voice. Thank you.
