A day in thelife 12 | KNOW • Volume 13 Issue 1 It’s 6:30 a.m. – and while the average person is still sleeping soundly, Lois Butler, Peggy Smith-Mitchell, and Angela Tucker-Holmes have already started their respective days. But to these three ladies who serve as educational support professionals (ESPs) in their local school systems, the early start is all a part of a day’s work in making the learning process possible for students. ESP of an ois Butler, known as Dr. Butler to her students, peers and colleagues, has been serving as an ESP for nearly three decades. She says, “It’s been a wonderful journey working with students on a daily basis.” Dr. Butler considers it a joy to be able to work with young people both in school and in the community at large. She became a building rep for GAE after she took part in getting her school board to agree to fair practices among all ESP groups. “I Joined GAE that day and never looked back,” she remembered. Since beginning her work as an ESP, Butler has had job duties ranging from clerical all the way to grading papers and has worked with nearly all grade levels. Nevertheless, she’s
