ELECTION NOTICE Special Election Notice to Fill District Director Vacancies In accordance with GAE Bylaw 5-9, b., the GAE Board of Directors shall fill District Director vacancies through a special election to be conducted by the Board of Directors at its January 23-24, 2015 Board of Directors meeting. GAE currently has four vacancies. The following District Director position vacancies are in the third year of office as follows: District Three – Formerly Janis McCalister, Douglas County Association of Educators, District Four – Formerly Sonya Tubman Jackson, Richmond County Association of Educators, Candidates for these District Director positions shall submit nominations to the GAE Executive Director no later than November 15, 2014 on the official nomination form. Candidates for District Director shall be non-supervisory Active Certified or Active Educational Support members. Members who are elected to serve in these District Director positions by the GAE Board of Directors serve in an interim capacity which does not constitute a full term; these members are eligible to run for a vacant position in their district in the regular election. Please note – if you intend to run for one of these interim positions and for the regular three year position you must submit both nomination forms by the November 15th deadline. Please review the GAE Uniform Code of Elections (UCOE) on our website at www.gae.org for a detailed explanation of the rules and procedures for candidates including eligibility, nomination procedures, publication procedures, and campaign procedures. The UCOE begins in Section 12.100 of the Representative Assembly and Board of Directors Policies. position now vacant position now vacant Nomination Procedure Candidates for GAE District Director must use the official nomination form available on the GAE website or in the official publication. The nomination should be mailed or transmitted directly to the office of the Executive Director. GAE will not accept responsibility for non-receipt of nominations addressed to any other person or office at GAE. Nomination forms for GAE District Director must be postmarked or transmitted no later than November 15th. Candidates who wish to deliver a presentation to the GAE Board of Directors may submit a written statement and/or appear in person on January 23, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the GAE Headquarters and deliver a presentation to the GAE Board of Directors. Candidates will be allowed to speak for up to three minutes. The GAE Board of Directors will conduct the elections by secret ballot following all presentations. The newly elected District Directors will be installed and immediately begin to serve on the Board at this meeting. Election Nomination Notice for Candidates for GAE Fund For Public Education 2015 Election Members will vote in March/April 2015 to elect District Representatives for the GAE Fund for Public Education (GAE-FPE) in the following districts: GAE members interested in qualifying as a candidate as his/her District Representative must submit an official nomination form to Chris Baumann, GAE Executive Director, between September 1st and November 15th. Successful candidates will be elected for a three year term beginning at the first official meeting following the election. Any current GAE member in the district who has been a member for one full year and who is a current GAE-FPE contributor is eligible to be a candidate. A successor representative shall come from a local unit other than that of which the retiring representative was a member at the time of his/her election. Members who were appointed to GAE-FPE by the GAE President serve in an interim capacity which does not constitute a full term and these members are eligible to run for a vacant position in their district. Members of the GAE Board of Directors may not serve as a GAE-FPE Representative. Statements exceeding the 250-word limit will be edited to delete all words following the 250th word. Statements and photos must be received by February 1, 2015 in order to be published online and in print.
