EARLY CAREER EDUCATORS TRAINING
GAE members spent the month of June in their local
retreats preparing for membership year 2019-20.
UniServ Director Michael Sears and Dr. Felecia Lee
were the trainers and facilitators for the retreats.
The members set local membership goals for the
2019–20 membership year, reviewed 2018–19
local accomplishments, reviewed and edited mission
statements, took a refresher on their duties and
responsibilities as an executive board, developed
community service ideas and learned the do’s and
don’ts of parliamentary procedure presented by
Retired Vice President Karen Solhiem. Locals had the
opportunity to share with each other doing group time
about moving the association forward and “Engaging
Early Career Educators.” Locals walked away with
yearly calendars and a local budget and a host of
ideas. Eight locals participated in the training.
During the “Back to Basics” training the leaders were
given instruction by Ms. Shovandra Caesar, Director
of the Alternative Teaching Center, Chatham County
School System, on the personality characteristics
of a team. The members engaged in team building
activities to demonstrate their understanding of their
team members personality. The teams were also
engaged with Social Media expert, Tanya Marshall,
CEO Owner of The Butterfly Teacher. Ms. Marshall
shared with the leaders the importance of social media
and how to engage their members. Many of them
left with wanting to use QR Codes to engage their
members and an effective way to recruit new and
potential members.
UniServ Directors Dr. Felecia Lee and Michael
Sears focused on the New Teacher Orientations and
providing resources for successful NTO’s. Twelve
locals participated in the training. The evaluations
suggested that a follow up training be held in the fall.
The leaders walked away excited and looking forward
to the new membership year and membership growth.
