on Headley, age 62, of Lansing, was unaware that
his back pain was really a problem with his hip joint.
Don works full time as a financial consultant and
is also the Michigan State D3 head hockey coach.
Away from work he enjoys golfing and exercising,
including yoga. He keeps a full, fast-paced schedule and
appreciates when others can help him stick to it.
“I tolerated the pain for almost a year,” states Don. “I went
to a holistic chiropractor for quite a while and I was doing some
hot yoga with lots of stretching. The combination of the two
helped me deal with the pain for a long time but then one day
nothing was working. A friend told me about Dr. Seann Willson,
Orthopedic Surgeon in Flint. I checked out her credentials, was
able to set up an appointment that worked with my schedule,
and met with her. She broke the news to me that I needed a
total hip replacement.”
Don was scheduled for surgery on November 21, 2016,
with the ambitious plan of traveling to Europe the day after
Christmas. Prior to surgery Don was given the opportunity to
attend McLaren Flint’s joint replacement class to learn what to
do, and expect, before and after surgery. While there he was
able to discuss his strict recovery plans with staff which gave
him piece of mind.
After surgery Don skated through his physical therapy and
the other post-surgical guidelines he was to follow. Don’s focus
on his trip got him on his once-in-a-lifetime flight the day after
Christmas. Following his MSU team’s national title win in 2014,
he and one of his players were picked to coach, and play on, an
all-star team in Europe this past December. It is something he
will never forget and is grateful to the McLaren Flint caregivers
who helped him make his goal.
