10 DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES DROP OFF K-6 campus: School personnel arrive on campus at 7:30 a.m. Students should NOT be on campus before 7:30 a.m. Parents/guardians who arrive before 7:30 a.m. cause driveway congestion for GCS staff arriving at this time. When the driveway gate is closed, parents are restricted to wait in a single line on the right side of the driveway. A double line of traffic when the gate is closed is a safety violation as you will block the entrance to emergency vehicles. There are no yard duty staff on the playgrounds before 7:30, therefore your children will not be supervised before 7:30 a.m. Students who ride to school are to be dropped off in front of the administration building and wait in the small quad area for the 7:55 a.m. bell to ring. It is a violation of our school policy and the City of Palmdale to allow parents to drop off, or pick up, your children on Palmdale Blvd. (also known as Hwy. 138). All students will report to the small playground quad area or to the cafeteria for breakfast before the 7:55 warning bell rings. At this time students will be permitted to enter their classrooms. During inclement weather conditions, students will remain inside the cafeteria and/or inside designated classrooms until the 7:55 a.m. warning bell. 7-12 campus: School personnel arrive at campus at 7:30 a.m. Students will be dropped off on campus for 7-8 grades on the East side campus entrance from 40th street East. Exiting right only on Avenue S. 9-12 students will be dropped off on campus on 37th Street East entrance through the circular driveway exit. Exceptions: a student with sibling in lower grades (7-8 grades) can be dropped off at the higher grade level area with prior approval by administration. Policy# GCS-2015-16-05-04 Commercial Vehicles transporting GCS students For students transportations by commercial vehicles. The Guidance Charter School will require all students who are picked up by third party, will need to provide GCS a valid liability insurance and proper licensing for the drivers. PICK UP K-6 campus: Parents/guardians are required to drive through the school driveway entrance only and wait patiently to pick up their children who are required to wait inside their classrooms until their names are called. Each student will be given a piece of bright green cardstock with his/her name on it to be put on the dash of the car picking them up. This will expedite our process for notifying students that their rides are here. Please place this sign with your children’s names on them at all times when picking up your children. We will not permit parents or students to walk through the driveway on or off the campus. If parents have not picked up their child by 3:10 p.m. Mon.-Thurs., or by 12:40 p.m. on Friday, students will be required to wait inside a designated classroom. Parents will need to park their cars and sign their child out of the designated classroom where they will be waiting. Late pick-ups disrupt the efficiency of our school and excessive occurrences will result in a formal meeting with the school Administration. The Guidance Charter School does not provide after school day care. 1. The vehicle entrance gate will not be opened until 2:35 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and at 12:05 p.m. on Friday. This schedule helps to ensure the safety of our students who may be on the playground before these times. If your child is in Kindergarten or First Grade, you must drive around to the west side of the campus to pick up your child next to the primary classroom area. All older siblings of K-1st grade students will also be waiting in that area of the campus to be picked up after school. 2. Those students, who walk home and need to cross Palmdale Blvd., will be escorted to the light on 10th St. E., and walked across Palmdale Blvd. by an approved campus employee.
