It was therefore decided that Castle & Pryor operatives would alternate diamond drilling with rotary percussive drilling in order to minimise risk of HAVS. Percussive drilling Percussive drilling achieves a rough-sided hole suitable for resin anchors, allowing the resin to adhere to the hole sides thus increasing stability. However, it cannot penetrate the steel reinforcement so, on contact with steel, the percussive drill is removed and replaced with a diamond tipped core drill. Castle & Pryor operatives alternated diamond drilling with rotary percussive drilling to minimise risk of HAVS. This enabled the steel cutting process to be completed before returning to percussive drilling to achieve the desired hole depth. Combining diamond and percussive drilling in this way, the risk of HAVS was significantly r educed, as the trigger time used in diamond drilling is much less. HAV Monitors used at all stages HAV monitors were used to assess the level of vibration from each machine, ensuring that the maximum regulated limit of exposure (ELV) were safely contained. The work was completed on time and in just three weeks. Richard Taylor, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Clancy Docwra Group Ltd, commented, “We selected Castle and Pryor as they are a highly experienced and well certified diamond drilling company. The work they completed was of the highest standard, their operatives were professional, friendly, organised and well supervised by Allan Fennell”. Easy to work with, delivered the project on time “They were easy to work with and delivered the project on time and I would have no hesitation in using Castle and Pryor again and highly recommend them to other construction companies,” Richard adds.
