The CONCRETE Times • MAY 2015 BATCHING PLANT FEATURE HOPE TRUST IN ELKON FOR NEW PLANT the first new batching operation in Hope’s 150-strong plant network presented a number of challenges for the engineering and operations teams. The twin-shaft mixer has an automatic mixer washing system installed so that access into the mixer unit itself is kept to a minimum. All the wash-out water will be re-used in the batching process. The Quick Master range of plants are available with outputs from 25 upto 135 cubic metres per hour with models to suit all site conditions. The unit also needed to be completely enclosed to help protect the local environment. Following discussions with a number of plant manufacturers, the Elkon Quick Master 60 was selected and manufactured in less than 8 weeks and was installed, complete with ground hopper and conveyor loading system, on a footprint of just 32 metres by 11 metres, with output up to 55 m3/h The plant was designed and installed in co-operation with Hope to eliminate vertical ladders where possible, whilst maintaining access to all areas of the plant for routine maintenance with the plant housing designed so all material transfer points are enclosed, minimising dust and noise to the local environment.
