The CONCRETE Times • MAR 2015 THE UK CONCRETE SHOW 2015 - SHOW REVIEW FLOOR JOINTS TAKE CENTRE STAge SPECIFIERS OF INDUSTRIAL FLOORS LOOKING FOR SLAB JOINTING SOLUTIONS WERE SPOILT FOR CHOICE AT THE 2015 UK CONCRETE SHOW SAYS STEVEN CALLAGHAN 24 It doesn’t seem that long ago that the only way to try and protect joiunt edges on industrial floor slabs was to pour in some resin and hope for the best. That all changed in 2012 when Permaban launched their Signature joint at The UK CONCRETE Show, where it won the most innovative new product award. Signature, the company claimed, is an armoured joint like no other. The joint utlises a half-hexagon shape - called‘disruptive face’ technology, which prevents the wheels of materials handling vehicles from dropping into the gap between the two edges of the joint. Because there’s no impact, there’s no damage to either the joint or the truck. The 2015 edition of the UK CONCRETE Show saw the latest manifestation of the Signature joint. In an industry first, Permaban displayed a pre-production model of its Signature joint manufactured from glass reinforced nylon (GRN). This strong, advanced composite is, the company claims, lightweight yet extremely robust and is used to manufacture a myriad of hard-working products, from automative parts to industrial bearings, wheelchair wheels to hard hats. Highly stable and non-conductile, it is also resistant to chemicals and can be recycled at the end of its life. A second new product was launched by Permaban at the The Permaban Signature Joint show, Permaban Signature AR Joint Repair System. This professional joint arris repair system incorporates a short length of Signature in glass reinforced nylon, along with screed, bonding agent and surface finishes, enabling damaged straight floor joints to be upgraded with a permanent repair that greatly improves the performance of the original joint. “The new material makes the joint much lighter and easier to handle on site, without compromising on strength and shipping is more cost-effective too,” commented Lee Brockway, Sales Director for Permaban. “Both these products are a step forward for Signature and for Permaban”.
