2014 Report to the Community

HEALTH CARE 4,152 804 On-site Clinics Community Clinics To help the pets in our community stay healthy and safe, Foothills Animal Shelter offers several affordable services to the public, including spay/ neuter surgeries, vaccinations, licenses and microchips. Vaccine Clinics take place at the Shelter and other locations throughout the community. The Shelter’s Health Care Team saw more than 11,000 patients in 2014. We continue to see a rise in older pets coming to the Shelter as well as animals in need of highly specialized surgeries and care. Our Health Care Team receives crucial support from veterinary partners in the community who help us with dental surgeries, repairing broken limbs and treating skin conditions of the Shelter’s “patients” —preparing them for a healthier life and a loving home. Addressing pet overpopulation is crucial to our mission. Toward that end, we spayed/neutered 3,956 animals in 2014. 1,030 VETERINARY PARTNERS We are so grateful for the expertise, assistance and support received from several veterinary partners throughout the community in 2014. • ACCESS—Animal Critical Care and Emergency Services • Animal Urgent Care • Arvada Veterinary Hospital • CARE Animal Hospital • Deer Creek Animal Hospital • Dr. Bob’s Vet Shop • Fox Hollow Animal Hospital • Front Range Mobile Surgical Services • GoldenView Animal Hospital • Legacy Veterinary Clinic • VCA Anderson Animal Hospital • Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital 8 Foothills Animal Shelter 2014 Report to the Community London Gets Her Legs When London, a 2-yearold female Mastiff mix, arrived at the Shelter, she quickly made a huge impression on staff. At 110 pounds, London is a big girl, and it was discovered that she needed specialized TPLO (tibial-plateau-level- ing osteotomy) surgery on both hind legs. Fortunately, a veterinary surgeon who often helps at the Shelter specializes in TPLO surgeries and offered to perform the operation. After undergoing surgery on both legs, London is fully recovered and doing wonderfully!
