Awesome Man of the Month Ed Carcarey Ed, you’ve had a fascinating path to entrepreneurship. You grew up making a lot of mistakes and eventually joined the Air Force. Share with us the key moments in your journey that have made you who you are today. Most of the “key moments” involve people who believed in me more than I believed in myself. My Grandfather was like a father to me and no matter how much trouble I got in he never stopped seeing the good. He passed away almost 30 years ago but not a day goes by that I do not think about him. His work ethic and drive still speak to me today! My mom was on her own at 21 with two children under the age of 5. She had no money, very little education and no options. I watched her work two jobs, take classes to better herself, work her way up the corporate ladder, raise two kids all without making excuses or quitting! She could have blamed others and rationalized why this was not her fault and society would have given her a pass. I am glad she persevered because it has become a model I try to emulate with my family. This year my wife Rose and I will celebrate our 13 | SavvyBizWomen 30th anniversary. Without her I would be dead or in prison! Any positive changes and success in my life have been a direct result of her dedication and love. She has never wavered in her belief that there is more in me than what I could see or fathom. She has always inspired me to be more in every area of my life. As I look back I realize that every major change and decision was a result of her first believing I could! Hope you noticed that two thirds of the people who impacted my life are women! There are many others but since this is a magazine and not a marathon I will spare you the list! Tell us why you were obsessed with trying to play in the NFL. Why are so many of us, men and women, obsessed with football? What does it do for us as human beings? Take us behind the scenes. In the beginning I thought playing football was about the money & fame. It wasn’t until later in life that what I really desired was to be with people who were willing to go beyond their limits.
