6. Get a coach who knows how to support you to transform your limiting beliefs and to be seen. Vulnerability is visibility’s partner in producing prosperity. However, showing vulnerability has been interpreted as a negative attitude in some personal development circles. From earliest childhood you’ve been taught to be strong and brave. Eternal youthfulness, wellness and material success are flashed as the ultimate goals by the media. In the wild, sick or maimed animals are sometimes set upon or abandoned by their own species. Survival instincts are hard-wired. It takes courage to expose your vulnerabilities when your reptilian brain is feeling threatened by the perceived risk. However, being visible without truly revealing yourself, imperfections and all, can only get you so far. Presenting a sanitised version of yourself means hiding some of your most interesting and intriguing attributes. People are more likely to connect with your honesty about your flaws and imperfections. As Brene Brown says in her ground-breaking TED talk about vulnerability, ‘be willing to let go of who you think you should be in order to be who you are’ because, ‘vulnerability is beautiful.’ Your capacity to nurture and connect in your relationships in life and business also depends upon you being comfortable with vulnerability and acting collectively and inclusively. So, your willingness to express your fallibility is one of your greatest strengths. How Getting Vulnerable Gets Results 1.
