GRADUATE STUDENTS CONTINUING THE JOURNEY BY CAROLYN FARR SHANESY With graduation now behind them, some University of South Carolina Upstate seniors are preparing to commence prestigious career paths around the world, while others will return to the classroom for graduate school. Here’s a glimpse at what a few members of the Class of 2014 will be doing: A wife and mother, Nicole Macallister, originally from North Branch, Minn., plans to add a new title before her name. “Pharmacy was a perfect match,” Macallister said. “I really enjoy Chemistry and this is the direction that it took me.” International student Xinyi Tan of Changchun, China, will attend graduate school at The Ohio State University to pursue her doctorate in French Studies. “Going to Upstate is one of the best things to ever happen to me,” Tan said. “I’m so grateful to the professors here and their role in helping me to realize my dream.” Tan hopes to return to USC Upstate to teach. Ryan Dolewski of Shirley, N.Y., laughs when he thinks about how he chose Upstate. “I came here because many of my friends chose Upstate and I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I found my niche in Chemistry,” he said.
