Why did you choose to work in this industry?
I was one of a few that deliberately chose a career in
insurance. I was studying business at college, and was
interested in mathematics related topics, but knew I didn’t
want to be an accountant. We studied an insurance module
and I liked the diversity it offered. I then went on to apply
at Lloyd’s Policy Signing Office.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
The highlight of my career was working in India for six
months. I was part of the team that set up the overseas
operations for Xchanging Ins-sure Services. At the time
I had barely travelled, other than a couple of holidays in
my early 20s. This was probably my biggest development
professionally and personally, and allowed me to make some
What has been the biggest challenge you have encountered?
The biggest challenge was redefining the claims services
offering and driving the Xchanging Claims Services team
forward after a significant change to the Lloyd’s Market
operating model for claims review and agreement. I am very
proud of what we achieved as a team and the successful
growth we have delivered in a difficult claims climate. We
operate the largest claims team in the market.
If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what
would it have been?
If I were to have my time again I may have studied to be
a teacher. I enjoy helping people develop and seeing them
grow, but that being said I get lots of opportunity to do this
in my current role.
