What has been the highlight of your career so far?
In 2009, I raised my hand to take on a sales management role in
Latin America, combining my language skills with my product
knowledge in reinsurance trust and project finance. Brazil was
the growth opportunity. This was shortly after Brazil reopened
the reinsurance market to foreign reinsurers, ending the 70-year
monopoly of the Institution de Resseguros do Brazil. Due to the
change in Brazilian legislation, it was a very exciting time.
What has been the biggest challenge you have encountered?
As a woman in financial services, I was given some professional
advice a few years ago that I still look back on today and am
grateful for: if I wanted to move on up in the organisation, it
was important for me to take on a leadership role that would
encompass managing a P&L with oversight of a broader team
across various functions.
I was subsequently promoted to head of sales and relationship
management for the US insurance and corporate markets. This
was certainly a stretch role for me, but I learned so much about
what it takes to run a profitable business. I truly believe that if
you are dedicated, channel the right energy to learning something
new, surround yourself with people who not only come together
to share your vision but also challenge you along the way, and
are fearless in your approach towards goal-setting (far-reaching
goals balanced with achievable ones), that anything is possible.
In the end, managing a P&L made me appreciate how every team
member contributes to the success of your business.

Why did you choose to work in this industry?
There were many influences that went into my decision
to pursue a career in financial services, but one of my
mentors early on encouraged me to consider a career path
that combined my experience of playing competitive sports
in college with my interpersonal and networking skills. A
career in finance was calling my name! Waking up every day
and being an integral part of a sales team really gives me a
sense of purpose and motivates me to outperform.

how every team member contributes to
the success of your business.”
