underwriting teams over the past four years. It has been a
unique personal and professional journey enriched by the
diversity of the cultures, different stages of maturity of the
markets and complexity of the lines of businesses ranging
from inter alia construction to general aviation, marine
What has been the biggest challenge you have encountered?
The biggest challenge has been to motivate teams, and keep
their energy high while guiding them through unpredictable
challenges following a change in the organisation or a refocus
of strategy. A team is like a family, where support and trust
are the most important factors. I try to maintain a positive
team spirit by instilling the confidence and trust that we will
succeed if we play as one team.
If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what
would it have been?
A social entrepreneur. I like to contribute first hand to
address society’s most pressing social problems such as food/
water scarcity and lack of education. I had the opportunity
to be exposed to this via the Global Entrepreneur Programs
of the Swiss Re Foundation where we built a sustainable
Learning Centre for children in Mongolia. I hope to become
more involved in this area in the future—as Gandhi said:
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world”.
Loredana Mazzoleni Neglén was appointed as head sales,
Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) of Swiss Re
Corporate Solutions in February 2017. In this role, she is
responsible for developing and executing the company’s
distribution and sales strategy in the region.
In 2011, she led the start-up of business activities in the Dubai
office for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and was appointed
head of specialties Europe, Middle East and Africa. In
2013, she relocated to Singapore as head of specialties Asia-
Pacific, where she led the specialties underwriting centres
and implemented the strategy for energy onshore/offshore,
mining, power, general aviation, marine, engineering and
construction, global markets products.
Why did you choose to work in this industry?
The main driver to join this industry has been my constant
desire to build up and expand into new areas. At the time
I joined Swiss Re to develop the growth in the alternative
risk solutions segment where I could combine my financial
expertise with the insurance industry into innovative
structures to hedge risks for corporate clients world-wide.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
My recent experience with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions
in Asia Pacific where I built up and led the specialties
“I try to maintain a positive team spirit
by instilling the confidence and trust.”
