Bermuda's Leaders Part II - Service Providers & ILS Specialists 2016

I believe it is still in a fledgling state given that convergence between the insurance industry and the capital markets only got started around 20 years ago. Of course, Bermuda will need to continue to view the ILS space in a similar manner for such growth to realise. What are the main challenges you see ahead? Insuretech, the convergence of insurance industry and IT, will play a crucial role as the risk transfer market evolves. A successful blend of the two will be a game-changer for the market, but there are still plenty of challenges on this front. Are there any other leaders you particularly admire for what they have done to help propel Bermuda to prominence as a risk transfer hub? I have a tremendous admiration for the service providers on the Island including lawyers, accountants, administrators and so forth. Their services and talents are essential for Bermuda’s business infrastructure and therefore instrumental in the prominence of Bermuda as a risk transfer hub. BERMUDA’S LEADERS PART II Masahide Kitade has more than 20 years of broad experience in every aspect of the reinsurance and financial industry. Prior to his current position, he worked for Aon Asia as regional director/head of Japan business based in Singapore where he was responsible for Japan business strategy across Asia. Before Aon, he spent over 10 years at Mitsubishi Corporation where he established the structured reinsurance business practices as a pioneering member specialised in the development of reinsurance and risk financing business. He also represented Mitsubishi Corporation on the boards of Pentelia Diamond Capital Management an investment management company specialising in ILS opportunities, as co-CEO. Kitade has a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Sophia University in 1991 and holds certified non-life insurance broker licences in Japan and Singapore.  Do you believe Bermuda will remain a risk transfer hub? Bermuda has established a great reputation as a leading reinsurance /ILS centre through its favourable regulatory environment and the longstanding commitment of its authorities. I believe this will remain the same moving forward. How do you anticipate Bermuda will continue to adapt and evolve? Bermuda’s current involvement in the ILS space is a testament to its innovation and flexibility. I think it is safe to say that the Island’s ability to adapt will continue to deliver tremendous innovation and value to the changing risk transfer landscape. What will be the main areas of growth for the Island’s risk transfer market? ILS has huge potential. The ILS market is growing rapidly, but “The Island’s ability to adapt will continue to deliver tremendous innovation and value to the changing risk transfer landscape.” Masahide Kitade Job title: Director/CEO/COO Company: Eastpoint Asset Management 32 2016 Bermuda:Re/insurance+ILS
