What are your aspirations for the future? To grow and evolve within my role while continuing to add value to Hamilton Re. If you’d chosen a different profession/career path, what would it have been? A profession that would allow me to give back to the community. I think it is important to reach out and help others in ways that can better lives. Sarah Cooper Job title: Assistant underwriter Company: Hamilton Re Career path Sarah Cooper joined Hamilton Re in 2013 and is working as assistant underwriter supporting the casualty and property underwriting teams. Prior to moving back to Bermuda in 2012, she worked in London for three years in various roles in the non-profit sector. Cooper graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2009 with a Master of Arts (Hons) degree in social anthropology and sociology. Since returning home, she has earned her Associate in General Insurance (AINS) and ARe designations. Why did you choose to go into the reinsurance industry? I wanted to challenge myself within a dynamic, fast-paced environment which would provide me with both an analytical and inter-personal skillset. Do you think the industry is attractive to young professionals? Of course. The industry caters to a wide variety of persons and skillsets which ultimately creates an attractive environment to work in. Plus, hard work and intuition is commonly recognised and rewarded accordingly. Do you think the reinsurance industry offers good opportunities and career development to young professionals?
