As a result Hannover Re Bermuda is one of the largest and most profitable catastrophe writers worldwide. Hannover Re Bermuda focuses on low frequency and high severity types of catastrophe reinsurance, while the head office in Germany considers per risk exposed and proportional covers. The Bermuda operation writes worldwide property catastrophe protections as well as US workers’ compensation catastrophe, personal accident catastrophe and terrorism covers. The firm utilises high standards of technology and automation which allows for real-time monitoring of aggregates in all critical zones before, during and after reinsurance placement discussions. In 2013 Hannover Re Bermuda also started writing motor liability, marine, aviation, liability, credit and surety covers. Hannover Re Bermuda supports more than 375 clients in more than 50 countries encompassing 70 zones/perils. Its primary distribution channel continues to be the broker market as we believe in the value-added services of the broker community. BERMUDA’S REINSURANCE LEADERS As president and CEO Konrad Rentrup is responsible for setting up the company, corporate systems and partnerships with brokers and clients and establishing strategic plans for the long-term success of the company. The company is mainly writing property catastrophe excess of loss treaty business and supports cedants in more than 35 countries. The premium volume of the company grew from $8 million gross written in 2001 to $572 million in 2015 and has produced a positive net income each year of its existence. Since the beginning of 1999 Rentrup was responsible as a senior vice president for the underwriting and leadership of the department handling the US property, the captive business and multiline book, as well as the nuclear and weather business on a worldwide basis. Also since mid-1999 he has been responsible for the development of a financial market orientated weather book on a worldwide basis. From 1995 to 1998 he was vice president handling the underwriting of US property, captive and multiline business, and Hannover Re’s nuclear account. From 1992 to 1994 he was charge of the US property catastrophe, business and machinery, contractors/ engineering all risks and entertainment accounts. He also handled all Bermudian and Bahamian business of Hannover Re as well as the property accounts of core clients. Responsibilities encompassed underwriting, aggregate control and administration.
