will ensure it can quickly adapt to any changing dynamics. It has a broad range of broking, reinsurance and fund administration organisations in a well run, credibly regulated, market. What will be the main areas of growth for the Island’s risk transfer market? Alternative capital remains the most likely area to provide growth. What are the main challenges you see ahead? There are many challenges in the industry but Bermuda’s inherent flexibility will enable it to adapt speedily and thus ensure its prosperity. Are there any other leaders you particularly admire for what they have done to help propel Bermuda to prominence as a risk transfer hub? The Bermuda Monetary Authority plays a key role for Bermuda under Jeremy Cox, as does the leadership of the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers. BERMUDA’S REINSURANCE LEADERS Jeremy Pinchin joined in 2005 as Hiscox’s first claims director, responsible for coordinating and developing claims services across the group. He came from Lloyd’s of London where he was the first head of claims following the creation of the franchise team, and was responsible for the market’s first coordinated claims strategy and claims management principles. He joined Lloyd’s as a consultant in early 2002 to head up a team coordinating the market’s management of its exposure to the losses arising from 9/11. Pinchin trained as a solicitor, who served as general counsel and later, board member of Sedgwick Group, the international insurance broker now part of Marsh. In 2012 he moved to Bermuda and became chief executive officer of Hiscox Bermuda and the group company secretary. Do you believe Bermuda will remain a risk transfer hub? What has made it so successful in this sphere? Bermuda has developed such a robust reinsurance structure it is difficult to see this changing. It would take some sizeable structural event to change Bermuda as a risk transfer hub. The exit of the UK from Europe potentially strengthens Bermuda’s position. How do you anticipate Bermuda will continue to adapt and evolve?
