Charles R. Baker Memorial Library Display Case Items Dr. E. H. Angle Headgear Manufacturer: SS White Dental Mfg. Co. From the 1927 SS White catalog: “This headgear is beautifully made of silk netting laced to a metal rim for the even distribution of the force which is exerted by heavy elastic bands. It is strong and non-collapsible, and is adjustable to any size of head and completely equalizes the pressure by its proper distribution, thus overcoming the evils of localized pressure and increasing the efficiency of the appliance many fold. Used in conjunction with the Traction Bar and Contraction Arch B for drawing in protruding upper incisors also to support the Chin Retractor in cases of protrusion of the lower arch.” Book: Treatment of Malocclusion of the Teeth 1907 - 7th edition Edward H. Angle, MD, DDS On page 192, Angle states: “The headgear is an improvement over the ordinary form in that it consists of an adjustable, non-collapsible rim, to which is attached by a silk lacing-cord a silk net which fits the back of the head, the rim being large enough not to come quite in contact with the head. By attaching elastic bands, one above and one below the ear on each side, which engage the hooked ends of the traction bar, any desired degree of force can be directed against the protruding teeth.” Angle School of Orthodontia Diploma 1908 The diploma was awarded to Dr. Harry Estes Kelsey for completing one full course of instruction in The Angle School of Orthodontia. The diploma is signed by Dr. Edward H. Angle.
